
Yondela Mahlathi
Yondela Mahlathi is a Researcher in Climate Policy and Food Systems at the IEJ. As an agricultural economist and analyst, he supports research and advocacy efforts aimed at promoting a climate-just food system, with particular emphasis on facilitating a just transition within South Africa’s food system. He holds an MSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of the Free State and an MCom in Competition and Economic Regulation from the University of Johannesburg. He has worked on value chain assessments across agriculture and related industries, drawing on evidence to enhance competitiveness, improve livelihoods and advance sustainability goals. Yondela is also experienced in stakeholder engagement, with diverse partners to build shared understanding, support collaboration, and translate research into practical, impact-driven initiatives
