This initiative disrupts mainstream economic paradigms and promotes heterodox African economics through research, teaching reform, and student mobilisation. It includes Rethinking Economics for Africa (REFA), a student network transforming economics education across the continent.
Rethinking Economics for Africa (REFA)
Rethinking Economics for Africa is a network of students and organisers fighting for new ways of teaching and practising economics – so that we can tackle real-world challenges such poverty, inequality and climate collapse.
The REFA Festival is the multi-day annual event with about 400 students, academics, speakers, activists, policy-makers and members of the public. It is usually held in September of every year, with all editions being in-person except 2020 and 2021.
