Job Creation and Working Conditions

Economic governance has been focused on questions around development, efficiency and stability. A human rights approach questions these priorities and offers an alternative way of analysing economic policies and outcomes. It asks whether they benefit the greater population. Factoring in human rights standards into economic policy allows for greater attention to be given to the needs of all stakeholders involved and affected by economic policy.

So far, within this project, the IEJ has hosted a series of dialogues on how a human rights based approach can contribute to building a financial sector in South Africa that is more sustainable, equitable, inclusive, and contributes to the sustainable development of the country. The IEJ also led a special stream focusing on economics and human rights at the Rethinking Economics for Africa Festival.
