As we reflect on our work in 2022, we are proud to present the remarkable progress and significant contributions made by the IEJ in advancing economic justice and development in this Annual Report.
Championing Economic Justice in 2022
In 2022, the IEJ continued championing economic justice and development. We emphasized the interdependence of job creation, retention, grants, and public services, addressing the global crisis of climate change. Our strategic focus on just transitions, particularly in African food systems, highlights our commitment to creating a more equitable and sustainable future.
Pushing Boundaries in Economic Thinking
The IEJ remains at the forefront of pushing economic thinking’s boundaries. Initiatives such as Rethinking Economics and Feminist Economics have sparked a reevaluation of economics education and the economic system itself. This work will ensure that we are equipped to tackle the multifaceted challenges of our time.
Highlights and Achievements
2022 was marked by significant achievements and impactful campaigns. From successfully advocating for extending and expanding the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to leading the campaign for a basic income guarantee in South Africa, the IEJ made strides in advocating for policies benefiting those in need. Our engagements with Parliament and National Treasury underscored the importance of job creation, grants, and public services.
By the Numbers
IEJ’s outputs and engagements in 2022 were extensive, reflecting our commitment to driving change through various channels. From news articles and radio interviews to policy briefs and webinars, we utilised diverse platforms to advance our mission.
Looking Ahead
As we embark on the next phase with a new five-year strategy, we’re excited to continue contributing significantly to economic justice and development. We express gratitude to our dedicated team, partners, and supporters who made our achievements possible.
